Hiya folks
Lucy and I had a swim dip in Nairn on Saturday, amidst a heavy downpour we did wonder if we were doing the right thing. We were hot and dusty after gardening and had a lovely refreshing dip only to be rewarded with the sun coming out and this rainbow blessing the beach and another great sea swim.
If you have a particularly nice photo of a sea swim or Nairn Beach and would be happy to share it as the cover photo for a future newsletter please email it to me at nairnbeachadventures@gmail.com
News and events
We are on the cusp of the main events season kicking off for swimming and triathlon, so now is a good chance to secure your spot in your next event or challenge. There are some great events and challenges to choose from and here are two to get you started.
Nairn Triathlon
There are just 2 months to go 🤩 until the Nairn Triathlon gets underway from the beach in Nairn for the iconic sea swim leg with the beautiful backdrop of the Moray Firth and the Soutars of Cromarty.
Nairn Triathlon is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist with the marshalling of the event on the 2nd of June 👏 “I volunteered last year and will be on hand again this year. Volunteering at sporting events like the Nairn Triathlon is hugely rewarding and what better way to start an early Sunday morning than strolling up and down Nairn beach watching swimmers battling the waves”.
If you are interested in volunteering please contact: nairntriathlon@yahoo.com

Swimathon
If a triathlon is not your cup of salty tea then why not consider a charity challenge swim? Duncan Goodhew is President of Swimathon and this year the Swimathon is supporting Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK and the Swimathon Foundation.
There is something for everyone with the Swimathon challenge because you can sign up from anything from 400Metres through to the channel distance and beyond with the MySwimathon option. The main event is April 26th-28th but you can take part in any distance, any time and at any venue (including Nairn Pool) from April 19th to 5th May.
Check out the Swimathon charities and book your Swimathon here.
The swimming forecast w/c 15th April 2024
The weather forecast is still looking rather wet with sunshine and showers for nearly all of next week and with NorthWesterly winds predominating it could feel cold on the beach getting changed for a swim. On the upside, you might find yourself having a rainbow swim!
The tide times for high tide swims in Nairn start on Monday 15th with the possibility of after-work swims for the folks working 9-5. The high tide falls on Monday 15th at 1711 and just 3.2M, much lower than the really high tides of last week. The way of the tides means that you will then be able to get a high tide swim in before work about 0700 on Wednesday morning and 0800 on Thursday. The weekend high tide swims look ideal for mid-morning swims about 1000-1100 respectively on Saturday and Sunday.
If you are not clear why I reference the high tide for swimming opportunities in Nairn then you can read my Medium article called A comprehensive (beginners) guide to tides for swimmers - and what to do if you get caught in a rip tide which has been written from a Nairn context.
